There are many times where you would like to emulate a different device when testing a site, not necessarily to emulate the exact way the device displays a page, but to make sure a fragment is getting picked up from the correct place.
There are 2 ways of doing this:
1) Fudge the user-agent so the device category algorithm thinks you are a different device. We normally use the useragent switcher plugin for Firefox.
2) Add the device category to the URL. This is a really nifty feature of the bemoko URL mapping engine which allows you to specify context before the intent in the URL. You can specify any context you want in the URL which is great for simplified testing. A good example of this in action is the live demo page on our website - go to the customers tab and find Doha Film Festival, then click on 'live demo'.
A phone will popup on the screen with the site rendered inside it. This is a live demo and works the same as the normal site.
We specify that we want the 320px version of the site in the URL, so instead of using
http://demo.bemoko.com/doha/i
we use
http://demo.bemoko.com/doha/320/i
This fools the system into thinking we are on a 320 device and it delivers the pages accordingly.
A great and quick way to test your pages for different UI's
