Make A Wish

the client

Make-A-Wish grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions. Since its inception in 1986, it has granted over 8,000 wishes.

There are currently 20,000 children and young people in the UK fighting a life-threatening condition and this year alone 1,400 children will turn to Make-A-Wish to have their wish granted. The charity needs to raise £6.8 million in 2012 and receives no government funding or lottery grants – so every donation really does count.

the brief

The national children’s charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK, engaged bemoko to launch a unique mobile web solution that communicates the fantastic work they do to a wider audience.

Make-A-Wish recognises that mobile and smart-phone adoption is changing the fund-raising landscape, donations generated using new channels is growing, so it’s vital to deliver an end-to-end mobile experience which engages donors keeping them up to date with how much their support really helps.

the solution

bemoko provided Make-A-Wish with its Micro Site Management Console, which gives the charity the power to generate mobile micro sites and campaigns in just a few minutes using images, text and even video. Make-A-Wish can now respond direct to SMS donors with rich content and images showing them how their donations have helped. It is particularly powerful as a mechanism for developing on-going relationships with donors that sign up via street fund-raising. The combination of bemoko’s mobile expertise and unique technology meant the new site was constructed and launched across all mobile devices simultaneously in a matter of days.

Engaging with Supporters

Katy Pickering – Individual Giving Manager at Make-A-Wish comments “being able to send out wishes and share rich video media and images with people to show them where their donations are going is a great step for Make-A-Wish. We were keen to engage with an audience that is not typically responsive to traditional media. Mobile was the obvious platform and with bemoko’s easy to use console we are able to create our own content with images whenever we need to”.

the benefits

This is just another example of how bemoko is helping charities use mobile to increase donations and communicate better with supporters. bemoko understand charities and our expertise allows us to help charities use mobile in innovative ways. In the case of Make-A-Wish, bemoko’s UK development team simply configured and customised the bemoko console to personalise it to the charity’s specific needs. The team at Make-A-Wish can now independently construct and deploy new campaigns within minutes. This provides an easy and highly cost effective way of informing donors about how their contribution has helped, which in turn drives deeper engagement with Make-A-Wish.
